Dr. Shakuntala (Shak) Makhijani was born and raised in Maryland. She received her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of California, Davis. She went on to complete an internship in shelter medicine at the University of Wisconsin, with emphases on surgery and access to affordable veterinary care. She worked in shelter medicine and general practice in DC and Maryland before joining the team at District Vet.
Dr. Makhijani lives in Silver Spring, MD with her husband and their dog, a sweet and goofy senior pit bull named Pancho. Outside of work, she enjoys bird watching, crafting, playing music, and reading.
